Aaliyah Dana Haaughton rose to prominence after the release of her debut album Age Ain't Nothing But an Number in 1994. The album, released when she only had 15 years old it went Gold. R. Kelly heavily influenced the collaboration and brought the singer up to the top of the charts. In 1996 Jermaine and Timbaland made Aaliyah's album One In A Million. It contained If Your Girls Only Knew the top-selling single. Aaliyah gained international recognition for her work as an R&B artist with the release of her sophomore album, One In A Million. Aaliyah starred alongside the legendary Jet-Li, the famous martial artist in Romeo Must Die (2000) the action and romance film. Joel Silver, a film producer, who was attending an award ceremony in which she was cast was able to spot her. The Matrix Sequels saw her as Zee following her appearance on The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and The Matrix Revolutions that same year. She was awarded four Grammy nominations in 1999 and 2003. While her initial professional career was mostly dominated by small films and television parts, she gained prominence in the mid-2000s. Some of her other notable work include Leverage 2012, Suits 2013, and Grey's Anatomy 2017. She has also been featured in advertisements for major brands such as international automobile manufacturer Volvo. She is a resident of Los Angeles where she continues acting as an actress.
