Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens, better called Queen Latifah in the US, is an actress and rapper. Her performance as a singer, music as well as a film and television artist has earned the actress two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Image Awards. She also received an Grammy Award along with six additional Grammy nominations. Queen Latifah was the daughter of the Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and a Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior was raised and born in Newark New Jersey. Her father and mother separated when Latifah was ten years old. Latifah was brought up in the Baptist church, and attended Catholic high school located within Newark New Jersey. The stage name Latifah meaning delicate and very gentle in Arabic was handed to her her cousin when she was eight. Latifah has always been tall and tall. Standing 5'10", she was the center forward on her high school basketball team. She sang "Home" from The Wiz in the course of a show at her highschool. Latifah started to beatbox for the group known as Ladies Fresh. Latifah is one of the original members of the Flavor Unit, which was at that time a collective made up of DJ Mark the45 King. Mark James, aka DJ Mark the45 King recorded Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. Then he gave it to Yo! MTV Raps Faddy. The single caught the eye of Tommy Boy Music employee Dante Ross who was signed by Latifah and released her debut single Wrath of My Madness.
